FG: Traditional Rulers Responsible For Insecurity In The North

The Federal Government has accused traditional rulers in the North of being the brains behind the crisis bedeviling the region.

Violence in some states in the North has recently been on the rise, this is excluding the terrorists attacks from dreaded Boko Haram.

The attacks range from herdsmen and farmers clashes, kidnappings, killings among others allegedly carried out by bandits in the area.

A governor of one of the states where the spike in violence has been witnessed is being described as the most useless among his colleagues nationwide.

In a statement from the Minister of Defence, Dan Ali, published by Premium Times, the government at the center accused some traditional leaders of colliding with the perpetrators.

“It is instructive to mention here that insurgency and terrorism are global phenomena that cannot be addressed through military actions only,” Mr Ali was quoted to have said in the statement on Tuesday.

“However, in spite of the concerted efforts of the Armed Forces and other security some unpatriotic persons including highly placed traditional rulers in the areas were identified as helping the bandits with intelligence to perpetuate their nefarious actions or to compromise military operations,” the minister said refusing to name the suspects.

In Zamfara State, mining has been suspended as the area is one of the places where the attacks has risen.
