Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been spotted wearing the campaign cap of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Mr Yakubu whose commission is conducting the general election beginning at weekend is expected to be apolitical.
But at a public event, the INEC Chairman is seen putting on a cap being worn by APC chieftains including President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr Buhari who seeks a second term in office was first seen wearing the campaign cap at his Adamawa State rally.
A twitter user, @SweetShantel, who shared a photo of the INEC Chairman wearing the cap called for the removal of the electoral chairman.
It appears to be a screenshot from a programme aired on Channels Television.
Further checks by POLITICS TIMES, showed it was not the first time the electoral chief would be wearing a cap like that.
Although the second one has the same design which looks like a broom – the symbol of the APC – it was however different from the colour.
Mahmood is yet to comment on the trending photos currently circulating in the internet.
The incumbent administration has been accused of plotting to rig the general election in favour of the APC.
A recent appointment of a close relation of the president to head the coalition of election result and the alleged unconstitutional removal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria are also been seen as a move to rig the forthcoming elections.
